This Website provides a platform to exhibit some of the images I have taken while out photographing Inner London. Many of my pictures have been taken to record street scenes or even just the street name plate. While they are useful when giving lectures, they are of no particular artistic merit.
On some days, I turn a corner in a street, enter a park or suddenly come upon an unusual vista. When the light is just right, that particular view can have remarkable qualities. It lifts the common-place view to something of real beauty.
In the following pages, arranged in Borough order, are some of what I hope are my more memorable pictures of London. Lighting is everything. I am often asked which camera I use, as if that has an important role in the quality of the image. While a good camera helps to take a good image, the lighting and general ambience are much more important than a very expensive camera. Another question that I am constantly being asked is 'Do you use filters?' The answer to that is 'No'. As I have already mentioned, when the lighting is just right, all that remains for me to do is to compose the scene in the viewfinder and 'click the button'. It is wonderful to record nature when it is providing its own special effects.
Taking pictures of London has brought me much pleasure even though it has involved many hours and days of work trying to take the 'perfect' image of a location. Most of the images have been chosen because they have a particular quality that is attractive. Others are shown because thay are unusual or show a view of a building that might only be possible for a short time (like a view taken while an adjacent building was being replaced or a view at a particular time of day).
It is hoped that, as you browse these pages, you will enjoy what you see!

Notes about the Website
The images are arranged either by Boroughs or by Single Topics. Each page contains a single photo-album. Those who have a fast Internet connection will find that pages load almost immediately. Sadly, if your Internet connection is slow, there will be a short wait while the images are loaded into the viewer. This can be rather tedious but it is hoped that the quality of the images you see make the wait worthwhile. The viewer allows the user to view images by clicking the appropriate thumbnail. It also allows the user to click 'Play' (at the top left-hand corner of the large image) to watch a continuous slide show. Click on 'Pause' to halt the process.
Note also that some Website pages have further links to additional photo-albums which are always at the bottom of the page. New images are constantly being added to the Website. This will give rise to even more links being added.
You may be interested to know that, if you use Internet Explorer, more display space for the images can be gained by pressing the 'F11' just ONCE. The effect is to cause the headings of the browser to be removed, to allow more space to display the main image, along with the thumbnail images below it. To cancel this effect, just press 'F11' again.
