    Paddington

The original village of Paddington started as a Saxon farm beside a Roman Road. Due to one of London's first by-pass roads being built, around 1800, Paddington became an early 'destination' for traffic, even though it was still surrounded by fields.

That was the start of its troubles. During the 1800s, two canals we built nearby. In the 1850s Paddington Station, the railway terminus for the Great Western Railway, occupied more farm land.

In the 21st century, Paddington is undergoing dramatic change once more as it becomes the centre for large office developments. These, of course, are going up because of the new transport revolution in London - Crossrail, which opens in 2018.

Paddington's story is told in two PDF documents to be found on Adrian Prockter's Keep and Share Website.
